Rev Dick Roby
Anne Roby has asked me to let people know that her husband, Rev Dick Roby, has died peacefully, whilst sitting in the garden of the care home where they were living.
A former minister of Stewartby, Dick will be remembered with great thankfulness for his faithful gospel ministry to the community of Stewartby over many years. Both he and Anne made a deep commitment to Stewartby when they moved into one of the Sir Malcolm Stewart bungalows, to share in the life of the village. They enjoyed having their allotment, attended events at the Common Room, and gave generously of their time, helping with, amongst other things, the youth club. They established a pram service, a ladies group and Bible Chat, as well as leading the usual Sunday services, christenings, weddings, funerals, Christmas services, the annual Sands service and also the Remembrance Sunday service at the village hall. All of this was undertaken on a voluntarily basis.
It was under his leadership that the old Sunday School Room was demolished and the new church hall and kitchen built.
Perhaps Dick will be best remembered as a gentle and caring man who served God faithfully.
If anyone would like to share a memory of Dick I would be happy to pass them on to Anne.
